Marapets Birthday

It's an activity celebrated every August 15th, and may last for a week or more! Marapets it's currently on their 15th birthday, and will be entering their 16th year from this point on! Everyone including Ian will tell you, that they never expected Marapets to go this far.

We need your help inviting as many online players to the fun! Visit a user's profile and hit the 'Happy Birthday' button and they will be invited to the party. Each player is different - some won't party, some will and others will have the best time ever! The response of the character will depend on what prize you receive. You can only invite a player who is currently online and can only invite the same player once every day. Each player can only be invited once every 30 seconds. You will receive MP or a Pinata as a prize. Hit said Pinata and a prize or two will fall out. As you browse and play the site as normal, a 'Birthday Gift' may show up in a box. When you find it, click it and you are guaranteed a prize! You can win a Gift Bag, MP, and if you're lucky, Account Upgrades Credit! 15 random players who find 100 or more Gifts will also randomly win a retired Party Costume.

Posting the Birthday Box image on profiles, siggies, etc is confusing to other players and, as usual, is not allowed. If you are asked to remove the image and do not do so, your account may be frozen until the end of the Birthday celebrations.

When did it all start?

On 15th August 2004 the site opened for this first time, many people visited from Maraqua and created accounts. Not many of those stayed and instead fled back to Neopets, but those who did stay were in for a big surprise. The site was always growing at furious speeds. From curious, occasional users to those who had decided to make this site their home, everyone was talking about Marapets! The site reached 300 million hits by the 17th of December 2005 which was quite an accomplishment, being only 17 months old at the time.

2005

Marapets reached its 1st birthday on the 15th August. As we are now in the second year, we are making many important changes to the site. Over the next few weeks, Marapets will have a lot of its old features upgraded and the whole site will be improved. Be prepared for a lot of changes.

The Terms and Conditions to the site have changed. Please read them.
All users over 13 will now have to verify their account with an email address in order to take advantage of certain parts of the site. There is also now a new Preferences page!
Nine new site images have been added. These include the new Privacy Policy, Shop Search and Terms and Conditions images. We will continue to improve and update outdated images over the next few weeks.
A new News system has been introduced. It will now be much easier to view old news. We have deleted all news from last year as it was filled with broken images and wrong information.

2006

"Marapets is two years old today! We have achieved so much in the past two years and we would like to thank you all for playing and helping us to grow. We will not be celebrating our birthday, but as promised we will soon be having a huge party for reaching 1 million players.

You have probably already noticed it, but we have changed the frontpage of the site. Its not entirely finished yet, as we will be adding more to it soon. As you already know, this month is dedicated to improving the whole of the site. Therefore there may be a few errors and glitches. Although the maintenance to pets, items, homes, quests, shops, galleries and missions finished last week, we are still working on the smaller sections of the site. Please let us know of any errors on the site using the Help Forum so that I have a list of things to fix while I work offline.

Sorry for the problems there have been with Images not loading. There was a problem with the log files reaching their limit and not overwriting themselves. This has been fixed now but we also had problems with some of our database servers last night, which caused the Battle & Restocks servers to crash. They're being fixed now and should come online again soon."

2007

Marapets is 3 Years Old today! Since we turned 2 years old, exactly a year ago today, we have had 18,438,866 unique visits by 5,423,960 unique people from 219 different countries and 13,607 different cities from EVERY continent in the world... and altogether we did 1,005,153,687 page views!! All of the staff at Marapets would like to say a huge thank you to every one of our players for making this possible - over 1 billion page views in a year!! Stay tuned for birthday celebrations later today...

To celebrate 3 Years of Marapets, we have just hidden 5 different items around the site that will retire this time next week. You will have all week to find them and get as many of them as you can until then! You'll get one playing games, one random from questing, one from random events, one from the pot of gold and one restocks!

2008

Marapets is 4 Years Old!! Ok, so we are a few days late for our birthday but there was so much more interesting news to release instead, and we were waiting for confirmation before giving you this awesome news! You all probably know that the sites had a massive hardware problem causing us to crash everyday. We could of paid to replace the broken parts of the server, but that would of required us to close the site, backup everything, fix the server, reinstall and configure everything and move the site back to the fixed server. But we decided not to do that, because even if everything went well, we'd have a minimum of 7 days downtime and thats way too long - especially when we don't know for sure if that would fix the server, there could be more broken on it. So instead, we decided to deal with these annoying errors and downtime for a couple of months to save up for a bigger and better new server and system for the site, which we need for the future growth of the site anyway. This was finally bought and is shipping in 5 to 10 working days!! This means that by the end of next week or at the start of the week after that, we will have approx 3 hours downtime while we move to our new system. This will give us a stable site that will be much faster, can hold more players on and we won't crash all the time with stupid server errors!! It also means that all of the broken & disabled features around the site can start return and with less errors and problems for us, the more time we can spend improving the site!

We aim to be running on our new system and have nearly every glitch on the site fixed within the next 2-3 weeks. You are probably thinking you have heard this so many times before, but this time we have a invested so much more time, money and have learnt so much from past mistakes on growing the site's servers. In the past we were growing too fast and couldn't financially afford to keep up with the growth. This time we waited 8 months to pay for exactly what we needed instead of buying cheaper alternatives that only fix the problem for the short term!

In the meantime, you can get a 4 Years Balloon from completing school, university, gym and elite gym courses. You can get a 4 Years Stamp randomly at the Pot of Gold and the 4 Years Cake from completing quests! All of these items will retire when we move to our new servers in approx 5-10 working days!!

2009

Marapets reached 5 Years Old on August 15, 2009. Happy (belated) Birthday Marapets! From now until the 20 December 2009, Birthday Cakes will randomly show up anywhere on the page - simply click them to win a prize!

The 50 different players who find and click the most birthday cakes in a box will receive 10,000,000MP and a limited edition Cake Trading Card and the next 250 will get a limited edition Cake Trading Card!

2010

Marapets reached 6 Years Old on August 15, 2010. Happy (belated) Birthday Marapets! We are now into our 7th year and want to make this year our best ever! We started by bringing back the Site Layout changing every hour so that you now know when it is night and day in Marada. We have also brought back Secret Blogs and the Monthly Checklist and will be fixing everything that needs fixing and bringing back features that are either not working or never finished. For example, we should soon have Gardens, more celebrity dress up games, trophies and Promote Marapets coming back. We also have huge aims for this year to further develop all of the world maps we already have, especially Lowlyhood and Kamilah Desert, and also release another 2 worlds! Marapets will also be going international with the more languages! There is so much planned for this year, so stick around, you won't be disappointed!

To celebrate our 6th Birthday, there are new items being added around the site as prizes. These will all retire on September 1st. Good luck collecting them!

2012

15th August

Marapets first opened 8 Years ago today! We would like to thank you all for playing, especially those who have stuck with us from the the early years! A MASSIVE thank you for the staff of Marapets, past and present, for all the hard work and support too - without them we would have no Marapets! To celebrate, a week long BIRTHDAY EVENT will start tomorrow! It will be FREE to enter and anyone can take part.

We have just started our 8th Birthday Party celebrations event. Its FREE for anyone to take part and win some free MP and prizes! Your job is to invite as many players currently online to our party. We won't be going to the party, but our characters will be!

Visit a user's profile and hit the 'Happy Birthday' button and they will be invited to the party. Each player is different - some won't party, some will and others will have the best time ever! The response of the character will depend on what prize you receive. You can only invite a player who is currently online and each character can only party once every 2 minutes.

Your goal is to get as many players to the party as possible before the event ends on 26th August. If you invite a player and they have a great time, they will also receive 1,000MP. At the end of the event, the top 200 players who can get the most players to go to the party will also receive a Party Costume and 1,000,000MP!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARAPETS!!!

Marapets first opened 9 Years ago today!!! A huge thank you to all the Marapets staff, past and present, for all their hard work. And of course, thanks to all players and supporters. Here's to many, many more years! We hope you enjoy our Birthday Events. Remember that the limited edition Birthday Account Upgrades and Birthday event items will all RETIRE August 27th. If you invite a player and they have a great time, they will also receive 1,000MP. At the end of the event, the top 100 players who can get the most players to go to the party will also receive a Balloon Trading Card and 1,000,000MP! The next 100 players will receive a Balloon Trading Card.

"New Account Upgrades have just been released. To celebrate the release of our new site layout, there is a double themed set of both Moonlight and Daylight pets. They both have a 1 in 3 chance of receiving an Enchanted Decadal Plushie.

The Decadal is our newest pet and is restricted. As Marapets is almost a decade old, this pet will so rare that it is only released once a decade. These Account Upgrades will retire after our Birthday events and you will have to wait another 10 Years before they are released again! There will be a small number of different coloured Enchanted Decadal Plushies and Potions to be won during our Birthday events."

The Decadal is now available as Minipet and Zombie.

We have reduced the time between Party Event invites from 2 minutes to 30 seconds.

23rd August

"We would like to apologize for Marapets yesterday. While we are celebrating the fact that Marapets hit a decade, yesterday was our servers reminding us of the fact that some of them are 7 or 8 years old! Our load balancer, which has been really good to us for the past 6 years and 8 months, crashed and yesterday was doing whatever it wanted, whenever it wanted.

Yesterday we just had to wait it out until the DNS records updated, which can take 24 hours or longer sometimes - anyone who cannot still load Marapets should restart their router, PC and flush their DNS. We've ordered a replacement that will be set up as soon as we get it. Anyway, here is the new Moonlight Troit!"

2nd September

The Restock system for the main shops in Marada has been updated. You may have noticed we have replaced the old, easily abused security codes with newer ones that will guarantee only genuine players can buy the items. Codes will only show on certain items - rare, expensive or unbuyable items. As items decrease in value or demand, the security code will be automatically removed. All other items will have no security codes at all but you can only buy one of the same item every 30 seconds.

The new codes also mean that we can make Restocking more interesting. All shops can now restock items of up to rarity 40 - meaning that there are some super rare items that will only show up a few times a week or month! There are 83 new items now restocking in several different shops.

Poco: Technically, it's a dog. Semantically speaking, dogs are only pets in real life; once it becomes online it becomes a Rusty. Soooo, let's say I took my Plug at the Fasoro Falls. It would be all well and good to call it a Rainbow Plug while I was still in Slater Park (since that's still online), but if I was then to go wandering around the City of Marada, surely that would make it a Baxter?

Well, never mind the fact that you can get a Baxter from somewhere special, because it seems as of now there are Baxters that are rarely available at the Minipet Shop. Once some Baxters are found, we'll let you know! 'Til then, it's probably safer just to stick with the tried and true Plug minipet.

HAPPY 11TH BIRTHDAY MARAPETS!!!!

We will not be having a birthday party event this year, as we have been very busy with the new Characters update. We are now two-thirds ready with phase 2 of the dress up dolls update!

Today is too special to have nothing new so here is the new Dukka Town map we finished just in time. We hope you like the changes!

You can now edit each of your Pet Profiles. It is similar to normal profiles, you can add a header, story page and a small image or text next to your pet. BBCodes work too! There is a new BBCode - enter [DOLL] anywhere on the site that accepts codes and the image of your dressup doll will show up!

Marapets is a teenager! 13 years ago today we were making the final preparations to open the site. We have come along way since then and would like to thank you all for your support over the years. Let's see what the teen years bring us...

HAPPY 15TH BIRTHDAY MARAPETS!!!!

Marapets is 15 Years Old!!!! We're officially in our 16th year of existence and while our 2 new 15th Birthday Party events maybe be familiar, we have so much new stuff on the way! These birthday events will end September 15th.

The top 15 players who collect the most gifts will receive an Allerjee Trading Card and 15,000,000MP! The next 415 players will win an Allerjee Trading Card and either 1,000,015MP, 100,015MP or 15,000MP. At the end of the event, there will be 15 random players (who find more than 215 gift bags) £15 Account Upgrade Credit and another 15 random players who win one of 15 random Decadal Potions.

MaraPets is getting old! With MaraPets turning 16 years old, these Old Pets are heading off for a long nap to make sure they don't miss any of the MaraPets sweet sixteen festivities.

A new birthday-themed Time Machine promotion has just started. Use the Time Machine between now and August 18th, 2020 and you can choose between the current prize list (that changes automatically every Saturday) or a special Birthday Prize List.
